BD BBL™ DrySlide™ Indole, pack of 75, BD Item No. 231748
BBL™ DrySlide™ Indole is used for determining the indole reaction of bacteria.
SUMMARY AND EXPLANATION The indole test is a qualitative procedure for determining the ability of bacteria to produce indole by reductive deamination of tryptophan. Vracko and Sherris showed that the indole test can be performed using filter paper moistened with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (DMABA), an effective indicator of indole production.
PRINCIPLES OF THE PROCEDURE Indole, if present, reacts with p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde to produce a pink-colored complex. The reaction is based on the pyrrole structure of indole, which permits a condensation reaction to occur between the CH2 groups on the indole molecule and the aldehyde group of the indole reagent.
REAGENTS BBL DrySlide Indole is a disposable slide with four filter paper reaction areas containing 5% p-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde (DMABA).
Warnings and Precautions: For in vitro Diagnostic Use. Handle BBL DrySlide Indole only by the slide mount; do not touch the reaction area. Follow established laboratory procedures in handling and disposing of infectious materials.
Storage Instructions: Store BBL DrySlide Indole at 2 – 8 °C. Store opened BBL DrySlide Indole pouches with unused slides at 15 – 30 °C. Use BBL DrySlide Indole from opened, resealed pouches within 5 days. Discard unused slides after 5 days.
